Then his son went through ROTC and became one of those officers that he hated.

My dad was drafted during the Korean war. Going through basic, they asked who could type. He could so he went to radio-teletype training, then went on to Europe. He did not like the military and thoroughly researched what he had to do and had to have for separation. He had it all, watched it get loaded on the ship back to the US, and when he got back his records were lost so he had to spend two more weeks in the Army.

My wife and I moved here 36 years ago with four kids. Now it’s just me and her but it would probably take five roll-offs to downsize enough to move somewhere else. A single level house would be nice, but here I know where everything is without turning on a light.

My motto for work has always been, “What do you want/need me to do?” I always hated the attitude, “That’s not my job.” One night on another shift, the supervisor put me on a certain machine. The lady that normally worked there went home “sick” because I was on “her” machine. The best one was a supervisor that said I wasn’t a “team player” when I told her I couldn’t work a certain area. Not because I didn’t want to work it, but I had never worked there and had zero idea how to run things. My supervisor laughed her butt off when she heard that.

One night I woke up when my wife kicked me. She kicked me because I wouldn’t stop squirting her with a water bottle…in her dream!

Years ago, during a layoff, you found out you were booted when your badge didn’t work to get inside. By the time my shift rolled around, a few women were standing at the door, afraid to swipe their badge.

Daughter left college after one semester. Encouraging mom said we’d be proud no matter what she did, unless she was a stripper…then no-filter me said, “Then Daddy would be proud.” That hurt for about six months.

Grandson graduated high school yesterday. Daughter broke her leg the day before. Bad combination of steps and a hyper kitty. So, she’s went to the graduation ceremony on crutches!

Both parents were teachers, so one “vacation” lasted six weeks during the summer. West on I-40, several state and national parks, Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Disneyland, Space Needle. On the diagonal back home the 12-year-old me wanted to go to Yellowstone since it was only 200-miles out of the way. After five weeks in the cab of the truck, parents’ radar was locked on “Home!” Fifty years later, I finally made it to Yellowstone!

I know a really good way to minimize health care costs. Institute a VERY limited maximum payout for any lawsuit. For doctors, malpractice insurance is through the roof because it’s not if you’re going to get sued, it’s when. One doctor I knew paid over $20K a year for malpractice insurance. The doctor didn’t do any invasive procedures, mole removal, etc. Also check into the tax rates for countries with “free” health care. One country limits the amount spent for your treatment, stopping at a certain level," because you’re going to die, anyway." We’ll just give you drugs to pass away peacefully. I paid almost $1000 a month for my policy. Once, when the billing person told me my co-pay was $2100, I asked how much it was to pay cash (credit card). It was less than $900. I got new insurance soon after that.
