   Maybe back in her day perhaps, but in this day and age, paychecks do not enable our passions. Honestly, I’ve had to just give up on my passions long ago because passions don’t pay the bills . . . but then again, even paychecks barely pay the bills anymore. Great, now I’m getting depressed again.

   Coming from someone who evidently is supporting and endorsing a 70+-year-old man who literally throws temper tantrums like a kindergartner and resorts to calling his perceived enemies petty names when he doesn’t get exactly what he wants.

   Oh yeah? Okay then. I’ll tell that to my Puerto Rican friend of nearly 20 years who was attacked and harassed by two MAGAts the day after the election who told him to, “Go back where he came from” (even though he’s from Boston, and has never actually even been to Puerto Rico), as well as the people of Columbus, Ohio who recently witnessed a demonstration march by an entire group of people dressed in black and bearing flags with swastikas on them that this is all just juvenilistic hysteria. I’ll tell my elderly, disabled mother the same thing when she ends up losing her Social Security – literally her only source of income. I’ll remind myself of the same when my prescriptions suddenly triple in price yet again like they did a couple of years ago. After all, it’s like Ben Carson once said: poverty is just a state of mind.

   I was able to achieve such a notion long about the early-to-mid New Tens when I finally had some stability in my life, it no longer seemed like any sort of hardships or crises were on the horizon, and I certainly could immerse myself more fully into my creative and artistic endeavors. I will agree that it felt so wonderful to be free of the shackles of pessimism . . . unfortunately, that did not last, and long about 2015/2016, it seemed that the whole world went to Helena Handbasket, and still continues that downward descent to this day.

   I don’t know . . . personally, I understand where Luann’s coming from . . . I mean, I’ve faced tons of disappointment, hardships, and crises all throughout my life, and honestly, I do find it difficult to find good in anything – especially now that the country is basically doomed. My personal philosphy has been it’s better to expect the worst and be pleasantly surprised, than to get your hopes up and face disappointment; everyone says it makes me negative and pessmistic, I think it makes me realistic.

   I’m not even saying that’s a bad thing at all, but as I have been complaining for a few years now, it seems like the focus of the overall comic has shifted to mostly on the Moony Roomies, whereas Luann herself (or Bernice, or the DeGroots) has been reduced to a glorified minor character.

    My “real job” is working in the mailroom/packaging center for the city newspaper (which also publishes other papers for several cities and states), so sometimes I’ll see new comics anywhere from a day to even a week in advance. In LUANN’s case, I do also get to see the title panel for the Sunday strips that GoComics never feature.
