The acronym stands for Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act. I’m pretty sure no one really thought the acronym through. And the answer to your question turned out to be yes. One time I registered a complaint about a safety issue at my work place that management would not address. The inspector wanted nothing to do with me because he considered me “management” even though my job title was Environmental Engineer. As a result, he never found the issue I had complained about. After his inspection was complete and he delivered his findings, he asked me what I thought of the inspection process. I told him he did not find the issue. He asked how I knew that and I told him because I was the one who filed the complaint. The issue was finally addressed but it was not because of him.
Nanaimo Bars! Yes! There was a two day relay run that traveled the length of Vancouver Island. The overnight was in Nanaimo. I did that relay 5 times and a Nanaimo Bar was a must for everyone on our team each time we did the relay.
I never had any dealings with OSHA or the EPA. WISHA (our state’s version of OSHA), State Department of Ecology (DOE), our local industrial waste agency (Metro), state Labor and Industry (L&I) and the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency were definitely not a joke. Not to mention the fire department.
“Have Fun Faster”. I need that on a t-shirt for my cross country runners.
