All true. And maybe some cartoonists do that. Especially those who draw on electronic media. But these are also artists who crank out comics 6 or 7 comics a week, so it’s more probable that they can just draw a right-handed character much faster than even flipping a digital image, which would have to be drawn backwards as a full character to appear correctly in the full strip.
Bill still hand draws on parchment paper, then scans them, sending them to “the syndicate”. (Sunday strips of Kevin and Kell go to Isabelle and Terrence for coloring.) The cool thing about doing it that way is you have an actual original.
Left-handed characters are easier to draw for right handed artists/cartoonists. Bill Holbrook told me that although he’s left-handed, he’s made a point of making EVERY character in his strips left-handed, despite the added difficulty, as a point of left-handed pride. Which I’m in favor of, being a lefty myself.
