I was a major fan of Phil Frank, who alas passed away a few years ago. When I moved to San Francisco, his “Farley” strips helped me learn a lot about the City. When he started Elderberries, I started reading that strip as well. And now, alas, it joins other great strips that have ended. I very much will miss it.
Actually, I first heard about Fermat’s Last Theorem from a high school math teacher (he was moonlighting as my Fortran teacher in college), He explained that he used it for dealing with really smart students who asked too many questions. He would suggest it to them, and they would become frustrated trying to solve it.
