Erm… shouldn’t it be the donuts that are delicious, not the box?

  2. over 13 years ago on Frog Applause

This made me laugh out loud. It’s great in its unexpected twist on utter simplicity.

Ashamed now to admit it, but just for the pure challenge of it, my daughter and I once drove from Minneapolis, MN to Ames. IA singing this song for each mile marker on the trip. We commemorated every marker, and we did, again for the challenge of it, sustain the “take one down and pass it arouuuuuuuuuuuuuund” to the next mile marker. Every mile. From Minneapolis to 13th St, Ames, IA. It’s got to be a record of some kind.

    Oh no. “Speeded”? Really?

  5. almost 14 years ago on Back in the Day

Interesting. I’m seeing that error more often than the correct word lately – it should be “warm and hearty.”

    Biddy. Old biddy.

It’s another way, chiefly Southern, of saying old hen.

  7. about 14 years ago on Haiku Ewe

Oh dear, it’s “shear,” not “sheer.”

  8. over 14 years ago on Dick Tracy

I’m sorry, there’s no such word in the dictionary as “petifors.” What you mean is petit fours… pronounced petifors. Little bite-sized cakes, delicately frosted and decorated.

You’ll find a few instances of petifors online, but that’s because people can’t spell and don’t take the trouble to use dictionaries.

  9. over 14 years ago on 2 Cows and a Chicken

    “Widdle”? Do you mean whittle?

  10. almost 15 years ago on Pinkerton

Like this comic. But I don’t like the line written under it: “see today’s strip in it’s full-sized glory…” SIGH! I just don’t understand why it’s hard for people to learn that “it” is the ONLY word that breaks the general rule of forming a possessive with ‘s.

“It’s” with apostrophe means IT IS.

“Its” without apostrophe means belonging to it. That way you can tell the difference between “it is” and “belonging to it” in written form.

Any editor worth their paycheck should know this and be ready to catch such obvious errors.
