Did you ever think that one of the things we were supposedly defending was the right to protest and to refuse to go along with something one’s conscience couldn’t abide? Having sat on both benches, let me assure you that both times I was defending what was dear to me and that one of me was not better than the other.
Yes, it does ring a bell. And it appears that the same teams are forming up again. And just think, the Democratic National Convention is in Chicago again this year. However, this time the mayor is nothing like Richard J. Daley (not to be confused with his son, Richard M. Daley).
Happily, I can’t say from personal experience, our three kids are doing well. But my wife and I have had dogs for the last almost 50 years and losing one is about as bad as I think I can tolerate. I think anything worse would end me.
This last weekend was Patriot’s Day weekend, a three-day weekend celebrated in Massachusetts and Maine to commemorate the skirmishes in Lexington and Concord on 18 April 1775. Maine celebrates it because they were part of Massachusetts until 1820 and just carried the holiday with them. It was changed to a Monday holiday a some years back. It also signals the start of the April vacation for schools.
