1) I didn’t say all of our beef imports come from South America. I do recall some time back when it became public that McDonald’s was importing beef from South America. The company then switched suppliers and started an ad campaign about using domestic beef.2) Just because the US may not import as much South American beef as it used to doesn’t mean the actions of cattle ranchers in South America doesn’t affect global climate.3) The problem with using slash and burn former rainforest land for crops is the soil makes for very poor farmland. Farmers usually move on to new deforested areas after only a couple of years. Subsistance farmers can make money growing shade crops inside the rainforest such as coffee and cocoa. Several small organizations are teaching farmers how to do it successfully.4) Cattle ranchers are not subsistence farmers.5) Rude tone, Obama phone, free stuff = Democrats….. blah blah blah.
