Cathy: I don't like you. I never really liked you. I wanted to believe you were my type but, honestly, the closer we got to each other, the more I knew it was wrong. You're too controlling for me. You squash my self-esteem. When I'm with you, everything is about you, you, you. I can't believe I was willing to change my whole life for you. You had to know it wasn't working. I started making excuses to not bring you along...I didn't want to be seen in public with you...maybe someday I'll be ready to try again...BUT for a long, long time I don't want you or any of your kind near me!!! Mom: The annual end-of-summer dumping of the bathing suit. Cathy: HEARTBREAKER!!
If this was the first Cathy strip someone read, or even if they’ve read others, but not very long/very many, they’d think this was the end of a toxic relationship (either friend, family, colleague, or romantic). But to me, who has read Cathy and numerous other series in print and pixel, I knew early on that this Sunday would be about some sort of inanimate object. And… [makes a popping sound with his lips to signify non-surprise] yup.
Still funny, though!
