Caption: He was a famous trumpet man from out Chicago way---He's in the army now-- He's blowin' reveille-- He's the boogie woog-ie bugle boy of company 'B'--- Noise: POOF Aunt Fritzi: WHAT A DREAM! 3 NANCYS as my grandpa's favorite singers---THE ANDREWS SISTERS!
Since Fritzi, Phil and Nancy were actually contemporaries of the Andrews Sisters, there is a pretty good chance that, once upon a time, the actual Andrews sisters followed the adventures of Fritzi and Nancy in their local newspapers! I remember one of the Fritzi comics from January of 1941 (When the Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy was popular) which featured Fritzi and Phil getting ready to go to a show. While Phil waited and fumed, Fritzi decided that the dress she was wearing didn’t go with the necklace she wanted to wear. So she changed her dress – but, then, decided that she didn’t like the necklace. So she changed clothes again. Finally, after several changes, Fritzi and Phil headed out for the show and they were WALKING! As they walked along, someone who knew Phil said Hi – and Phil waved back. So, when they finally arrived at the show, the show was getting ready to start and Fritzi complained that they were late because Phil had stopped to speak to his friend on the street! By 1943, Fritzi was all aglow because one of her gentleman friends had gone into “war work.” Phil told Fritzi that he tried to join the Marines, but he was an inch too short. So Fritzi put her foot down and told Phil NOT to call her until he had found SOME sort of “war work” to do. So a few days later, Phil called Fritzi and told her that he was going to school to learn welding. So Fritzi was pretty pleased about Phil’s new job and decided to WALK over to the welding school to surprise Phil at lunch. Fritzi was pretty miffed when she finally arrived at the welding school – and discovered that all of the rest of Phil’s classmates were curvaceous females! !
