Stone Soup by Jan Eliot Holly: Mom? Can I go to a concert in Belville? Hanna's older brother is driving... Val: No, Holly. Holly: But MOM! He's a REALLY good driver, and ALL my friends are going!! Val: Fine. Give me their names and I'll check in with their parents. Holly: You can't. They're out of town. Val: Let's see. My thirteen-year-old wants to travel sixty miles in a car driven by a boy I've never met, with "all" her friends, whose parents gave consent even though they're all out of town... Holly: It's a reasonable request! Val: HA HEE HEE HA Holly: What kind of mother LAUGHS at her children?! Val: If I couldn't laugh, I'd cry.
