The new Millennium Woman: I don't care about the consumer confidence index... there's a lot of overall strength in this economy, even when you consider the 4th quarter drop in manufactured goods. True, high energy prices have had an effect on markets, but the Fed is responding by cutting short-tern interest rates. ANd the foreign exchange situation will probably improve as the euro becomes stronger, weakens the dollar and makes our exports more affordable. Man: I'm supposed to find this econobabble stuff exciting right? Woman: You'd better... it's all we've got.
