Can we just point out here that the source of the problem was GM itself? It has been run incompetently for 40 years, and one of their recent genius moves was to re-hire a previous CEO. Great. We got stuck with the bill for bailing them out because if GM went down, even more of the economy would go down with it. Not only that, but GM manufactures parts for all the other car companies building in the US - even Toyota. This would have a devastating effect on the economy.
But they still haven’t gotten it together. Had they hired, say, Carlos Ghosh of Nissan/Renault to sort them out, or even asked for advice from Alan Mulally of Ford, I’d be more reassured.
