There has recently been mention of the 1976-8 comic Krazy. One of the strips in Krazy was called “Paws” and was by Leslie Harding who was Reg Smythe’s icon when Reg first became a cartoonist and who helped Reg to become a professional cartoonist.
Today, I looked up “Leslie Harding cartoonist” on Google and found two websites of special interest to me. One was “Leslie Harding – Reg Smythe” which told me some more about Reg and Leslie. The other was “Leslie Harding – Cheeky Weekly”. It was actually about a Paws strip which Leslie drew for Krazy but contained a single-panel appearance by Cheeky who appeared in two separate strips in Krazy – “The Krazy Gang” and “Hello – It’s Cheeky”. Cheeky went on to have his own weekly comic called “Cheeky Weekly”.
The Paws strip is also of interest to Andy Capp fans as it features a cloud fight between two dogs near the end. The cloud fight contains the words “Growl” and “Grrr” but also the words “Biff!” and “Bash!” which would be more suited to a cloud fight between humans.
