Mary Lou: Pop! You put Gene on the fryer! Gus: He's too good for that now? Mary Lou: No!! But he just got home! We...I...want to show him all I've done to the house! Gus: You know Andy! He'll be along! Meanwhile, I'll see what I can do! Mary Lou: OK, Pop! Gus: For years, a father pretends to know everything, then he pretends to know nothing.
In the days when pay phones existed and you needed a dime:
A father gave his teenage daughter a dime when she started to date. “Hold on to this.”, he told her. “Things will get hot and heavy at times. Call me when you’re ready to go farther, and you’ll get my blessing.”
Well, the years passed, and the teenager grew into an adult. She never used the dime as the thought of calling her father was like a shot of reason into the heat of the moment.
On the day she married, she hugged her mother and father good bye and headed off to her honeymoon. At 2 am, her father got a phone call. “Dad,” he heard, “Is it okay now?” Through tears and laughter he gave her his blessing.
