This is true. People love to be thanked for something. I have taken to thanking the people who work in highway rest areas when I travel. It isn’t frequent, but when I do get on a road trip, 2-5 times a year, those places are a godsend. I thank the people cleaning the place, including in the restrooms, for doing their jobs. Every last one has acknowledged me in return. It meant something to them because it (almost) never happens. I’m no saint. I just thought that, well, what Aunty said. So I decided to do it. And highway rest stop attendants seemed like a good place to start.
