Baldo by Hector D. Cantú and Carlos Castellanos for September 28, 2008
Transcript:
Tia Carmen: Here, let me help with your homework. Gracie: Um... OK. Gracie: 'Your mom bought you a one-year rock-climbing pass for $420.' Gracie: 'She's making 12 payments of how much money to pay for the pass? Tia Carmen: That's easy! Tia Carmen: First of all, don't buy something if you have to make payments! Enter you can afford it... or you can't. Tia Carmen: And rock-climbing sounds dangerous. Those who flirt with danger flirt with doctors! Gracie: If this were a class on wisdom, I'd get an A-plus-plus. Tia Carmen: Besides I bet if you haggled, you could get a better price than $420.
I can’t believe how the media constantly portrays rock climbing as a negative thing. Obviously Cantu and Castellanos don’t know the first thing about rock climbing. Everybody who has some experience with rock climbing knows that it can be perfectly safe if you know what you are doing. Plus, when you first start rock climbing, the danger is so mild that you are more likely to get injured walking than climbing. I may be overreacting since this is just a comic strip, but I just want to see one piece of media that features rock climbing that doesn’t take a knock at it.
