You just can’t keep a good monster down!
That’s right… It’s the return of Bassetzilla…
In the January 28th, 2021 “Cleo and Company” on Sherpa.
Oooh.
Now, you guys know I’m a wuss when it comes to scary films…
But I make an exception for old monster movies, as long as they were made before the special effects people filled them with blood and gore.
I watched so many when I was young, and grew to love the obviously fake monsters…
the giant reptiles, out-sized arachnids, rogue robots and antennaed green aliens…
and especially, the touches of humor … on purpose, or unintentional.
This particular film was meant to be scary….
Sometimes it is… but other scenes become almost parodies of themselves, and it breaks the tension.
I think I can handle it.
Montana Lady… We can still sit together in the scaredy cat row, right, even if it’s not totally scary?
And of course, any of you others who’d like to sit there too.
Kibblecorn on me this time!
The Japanese were the first to make a human version … and theirs was meant to frighten, as well.
But if you look at their English language posters
You’ll see that a human actor has top billing… I was corrected once before when I called him American, cos he’s Canadian… right Steve?
With the crowds chattering away in Japanese, wildly mugging their expressions of horror….
contrasted with his stolid acting, as the “hero” …
the adaptation took on a satirical tone that neither neither film company ever really intended.
Take a look!
