I trust I know what you’re talking about, but that’s not what I’m talking about. “Manifest Destiny” is an ideology of a sort, but the sufferings of the indigenes caused by the expansion of the newcomers had little to do with, say, the ideals of democracy or liberty or pluralism or whatever. To the extent that the Iroquois Confederation provided a model for our Federal system, I don’t think they’d have had a problem with that.
