What is it with all these sniffy comments? These certainly are legitimate things a lot of parents today deal with. I have 2 pre-teens. Gone are the days when kids kept themselves busy playing outside with each other. Today if you don’t want your kids to be on the computer or tv all day you have to sign them up in activities and then drive them there. You have to drive them to friends houses because people are paranoid to let them bike themselves. Hooray for all of you patting yourselves on the back that your kids are perfect and read and play and probably never fight instead of watching tv and so on but among my friends the whole tv thing is a real concern. We try to limit it but sometimes it helps us keep the kids quiet while we get dinner ready. We parents also long for how it was when we ourselves were kids, things were simpler, not everything was organized. Pick up baseball games in the park and so on. It’s no longer like that. Now if you are a parent who isn’t hovering around your kids you are seen as a neglectful parent. Even my mom says parents have a much harder time these days, so much more pressure to be perfect than ever before.
