This puts me in mind of an old Monty Python’s Flying Circus animated sequence where the announcer says archeologists have unearthed the fragment of an exciting, newly discovered prehistoric creature, and painstakingly reconstructed the entire beast from it. Then, it cuts to a cartoon of a human toe on the face of a woolly mammoth.
We can never really be too sure how far off the mark — or close to it — are our speculations about ancient life. But then, that’s half the fun!
