Copper wires are not inherently evil, it is what you power them with them that is evil.
That does sound like an NRA style evasion of course, the key difference being that guns are designed to kill at a distance, or (at best) to threaten that result and so act as a tool of fear and coercion.
The gun crazies will argue knives are similarly dangerous, but I have a kitchen drawer full of them, they get used to make dinner. Beyond shooting dinner (how many people realistically rely on hunting for small game for their sustenance, given levels of urbanisation?) a gun isn’t going to get you fed unless you use it in robbing a 7-eleven.
