As a good and loyal Brit I got good and drunk Thursday night to celibate the end of the BoJo the Clown Psychodrama. The people who had supported him through lying (all the time), planning to break international law (and lying about it), partying through the pandemic (and lying about it), changing to rules so lying to Parliament is no longer a resigning matter (and lying about it), changing the rules so his pal would not have to resign for taking bribes (and lying about it) and more… they finally drew the line when his chosen man for Deputy Chief Whip (the man responsible for party discipline and, ironically, investigating allegations of sexual misconduct) got so drunk he groped 2 young men in public, a man with a known history of groping young men which BoJo knew (and lying about it). BoJo sent ministers out to lie for him, only to change his story 2 hours later.
Of 191 MPs in his government at various levels, 59 resigned. Most of the 30 or so senior people stayed, most claiming they thought the government had to keep functioning, though some did suggest he might possibly want to think about going.
So the Tory party will now chose a replacement, and some of the candidates are people who stood by and watched close up as BoJo lied and cheated his way through 3 years. They think about 12 will stand, they go through a series of ballots with the lowest scoring dropping out and some giving up until there are 2 left. They then go to a ballot of the 100 000 or so members of the party. The Conservative Party membership has a mean age of about 78, mostly white, mostly affluent… totally unrepresentative of the country. (My own party does not do it much better, but is at least transparent).
So expect another incompetent, out of touch, right wing ideologue who will bumble along being a wannbe Voldemort until the full horror of BoJo Brexit Legacy brings the country to its knees. To be continued….
