Reminds me of when I was going to get my ears pierced and mum told me they would shoot the holes in my ears. I was so worried that they would miss…thought they would shoot a needle with an actual gun from a distance. The real thing was quite the relief.
Doctors used to use the mirror on their head to enhance the light that was available. I remember seeing the “head mirror” when I was a child. They aren’t necessary anymore.
They were used only for reflecting lamplight to check the tonsils and the back of the mouth. Mainly by old-time general-practitioners and ear-nose-and-throat specialists. It’s been 50 years since I used one in medical school. They probably use video head cams now.
