Ages ago, when I used to hold the license for the public access shows at the college radio station, we had this one guy who liked to play recordings by English music hall comics. In one clip, two guys are watching a John Wayne movie. First guy says, “I’ll bet you ten pounds John Wayne falls off his horse in the next scene.” Second guy says, “You’re on.” As they watch, the horse slips into a ravine and Wayne goes head over heels. As he’s paying off, second guy says, “Tell me, didja see the movie before?” As he takes the first guys note, he says, “Truth be told, yeah, I did.” “So did I,” says the second guy, “but I didn’t think the horse would be stupid enough to fall into that ravine again.”
