Richard Nixon: Of course, different people will no doubt have very different interpretations of what was said - particularly at the so-called hush money meeting. In this meeting, we discussed the options with great candor. First, we could have paid the money, in the interests of national security. But we might have been bled dry. Or, we could have taken everyone with knowledge of the case out and shot them. But, as a lawyer, I knew that would be wrong. No, I wanted to the whole thing to be out in the open!
