Jimmy Carter: Well, Mr. Rumsey, I've certainly appreciated your counsel today. Rumsey: Governor, if I may just add a note of warning... when you meet Mr. Ford in debate next week, I'd guard against the atmospherics. "Love" and "Compassion" are not issues with which points are made. There is no love in abortions, no compassion in embargoes! But they are social realities! The President can only benefit if you persist in unfocused positions! Carter: You'll be joining us in a little softball, won't you, Mr. Rumsey? Rumsey: Have you heard a word I said, Governor?!
