John Anderson: And I say let's tighten our belts, collar inflation, and put a hair shirt in every pot! Voice: Paid for by friends of John Anderson. Anderson: And as I've said before, when it comes to cutting the budget, I don't hear the other candidates talking in anything but generalities. The American people deserve better. Voice: Congressman Anderson, perhaps you could tell us in greater detail what cuts you would make? Anderson: I'll do better than that, I'll tell you what cuts I would make that would affect people right here in California. First, I would cut back on school security increases, a move that would take money out of the pockets of over 250,000 elderly just in Orange County. I realize this isn't a popular decision. Then I would eliminate several wasteful defense contracts. A cut which would jeopardize teh jobs of nearly 8,000 Los Angeles workers. The closing of the Anaheim teletechnics plant alone would cost 830 jobs. Voice: Congressman, could you be a little more specific? Anderson: Gladly. Among those who would be laid off are Mr. T.I Hooton of Sherman Oaks, Mr. Newton Longbottom of -
