Jules: Seems logical... but is it politically tenable? Tom (Math Department Chair): Jules, I've been meaning to talk to you about that B- you handed out last month... As chairman of the math department, I think I was entitled to some warning. You must have known it would provoke a firestorm. Jules: Actually, Tom, I didn't. I thought it was still possible to assign a grade based on performance and merit! Tom: That's a little naive, Jules. This is a new generation of students. They insist on a certain comfort level... It doesn't matter if you've got a kid who believes 1+1=3, from now on, work around it! Jules: Work around it? Tom: Jules, you have to make math accessible!
