Zonker: Mike? What stratum are you down to? Mike: Must be about 1985. The stamps are 22 cents. Zonker: Hi, folks! Time again to visit the ol' Doonesbury reader mail silo! Mike: And this time we're going to dig deep - literally! Zonker: That's right - we've got 38 years of unopened mail here, so we thought it might be fun to look at some old stuff! So whatcha got there, Mike? Mike: A letter with an 18 cent stamp! That dates it to about 1981! Zonker: Give it a read, bro! Mike: "Dear Mike: Don't even thinking of marrying J.J.! It'd be the biggest mistake of your life1 Best, Bill K., Chicago." Zonker: So waht have learned, kids? To open our mail in a timely fashion! Mike: "P.S. recommend you invest in a company called microsoft."
I still use stamps to pay bills to companies I wouldn’t trust with a charge card, and to write to relatives who aren’t allowed near computers under the terms of their probation.
