Mike: Listen, Zonk, the reason I called is that we're moving out of Walden next week and we've decided to have a farewell reunion. Since you can afford it now, J.J. and I were hoping you'd be able to fly up and join us for the festivities! Zonker: I wouldn't missi t, Mikey. It's a lovely gesture to ask me. You're still my friend of friends. Mike: Of course I am. Zonker: Boy, I hope I don't outgrow you, man! Mike: Me, too, Zonk.
My Best friend since we were both 8 died last year. We were both 64. He died of massive heart attack. We used to sneak out at night when we were about 14 and take cars out joy riding. At age 16 we went to Canada in May, then decided to take the Alcan Hiway to Alaska where we found work on a fishing boat. Made it back home in Oct, missed the last 2 weeks and first month of school. Both grounded for a year, my step father beat the hell out of me as I had taken his VW microbus. Oops!We both volunteered for the Army in 1968 and left for Basic the day after HS grad(we welded all the doors of rival HS closed, took them 2 day to get them opened again, continued joy riding at night, up to and over 150 mph, while grounded) . Then both to Vietnam where we both survived without injury even tho both in Infantry. He left after 3 years, I stayed for 12, got seriously injured in training accident, got out with 70% disability, then into Fed Gov employment for next 18 years. Then medical retirement from FedGov
