You know, I kind of miss the days of job-hunting through the newspaper classifieds. You had one source to know all of the employment available in your area. Nowadays, there are a dozen different websites to check, and each one keeps duplicating entries within itself. The search functions are horrible for mixing in the few entries for the field you want with a bunch that are irrelevant.
If you do find a listing that you think you would have a shot at, you have to apply electronically. The businesses won’t even let you fill out an application and deliver a resume in person any more. The electronic applications are screened by a computer based on key words, so the personnel manager often won’t ever even see your application because you didn’t have the right key words for the computer screening program, when you might have been the perfect candidate for the job if they’d just give you five minutes of face time to talk to you.
