It’s strange how cartoonists try to present mathematical formulas. You can always see in an instant, that they have no clue. Why don’t they simply copy some real ones from a photo in the web or from a math book? Imagine a cartoonist would try to present a scene from a sports event he is not familiar with and make something up which is totally wrong. Nobody would accept it and no cartoonist would dare to try. But they do it with math, and similarly to math, also chess is often mispresented, even in the movies. Typically, you will see a scene where somebody is suddenly shouting “checkmate!” That rarely ever happens in reality, except for small kids and beginners. But non-mathematicians and non-chessplayers seem to suppose that almost nobody knows math or how to play chess, therefore, they just fake some nonsense and expect the audience would not notice.
