Stewie, sadly, I agree with you - and note that the politics of division have been central to Republican campaign policy since Nixon’s “Southern Strategy” back in 1968. (Sorry, kellykid, you’re off base. That was a real division, not a political tactic, as was the “real America” remark.) In fact, The Democrats have been getting contempt for daring to compromise. Remember Kerry the “flip-flopper?” McCain flipped and flopped far worse by that definition – but this is what Senators are supposed to do – negotiate with each other to get the job done. (Though McCain disavowed his own legislation for political reasons, which is a different thing.)
