I have had several spiritual experiences that have left me comforted but also with the conviction that one can still live in a world of injustice, war and holecaust and for that reason I do not believe that humans are spared pain because there is a benign, loving god who looks out for people, in this lifetime. I can understand why atheists are comforted by not believing in god and would rather just be dead than bound for heaven or hell. Once a person gets around the anxiety of contemplating one’s own death, one may embrace the idea of atheism.
