I remember in January, 1969, landing near Saigon and being on a bus driving through Camp Alpha to the Caribou that would be flying us to Dong Tam. I saw something running from under one hooch to another and thought, “That is the weirdest dog I ever saw.” Then I realized that it was a rat. The body was about as big around as both of my fists together, and the tail was about 18 inches long. My first day in Vietnam.
