Years ago I knew a man in southern Indiana who owned a “pet” black bear. The animal was caged. All was well enough until it wasn’t. Evidently, while feeding the bear, it attacked its owner. His screams fetched his wife to the cage. She carried a rifle and shot dead the bear. The owner was maimed, never to completely to recover. The owner of the now defunct Armor Museum in Anderson, Indiana (McClain or McCland was his name) owned and kept caged a lioness at his museum.
