44441111—Nope. I used to think I was worthless. It wasn’t a sign of humility, it was a sign of severe emotional damage brought on by an abusive childhood. Now, after years of love and kindness, I realize that, flawed as I may be, I have great value. I am a good wife, a good mother, and I make valuable contributions to society. Overblown pride can be a bad thing, no doubt, but that’s not a good reason for young women to ceaselessly insult themselves. Especially intelligent, talented young women like Bernice who do in fact have great value, if only they could see it.
