English and Australian actors learn American accents from their earliest days in the business, in order to have more opportunities open to them. Many learn to pull it off perfectly. (Think of Peter Sellers as the President of the USA in “Dr. Strangelove”.) American actors don’t work nearly so hard on learning British or other accents, and a native Brit can easily spot the impostor. Sometimes it’s painfully obvious even to Americans, too. (Think of Dick Van Dyke in “Mary Poppins”.)
