Rationale: I have been reading the comments for days now and note that there are several, perhaps even many, not just fans, but longtime fans, who are getting pretty tired of Ann Eiffel.
I have even read the comments of long time readers threatening to stop reading the strip because of Ann Eiffel. More than one commentator has said this comic strip has become DEPRESSING.
It was said that G&K wanted to “spare” us of the misery that COVID-19 has become. But the constant presentation of Ann Eiffel constantly winning, and Tiffany constantly, brutally abused, over and over and over: IS THIS REALLY LESS DEPRESSING THAN COVID-19?
Unfortunately, Ann Eiffel usually draws as many as 500 comments a day: If the creators are gauging success by number of comments, then we might as well count on Ann Eiffel becoming a permanent fixture around here. (What the heck? Thursday, we topped 600 comments!)
Now, we “get it,” there has to be a villain. Tiffany used to be the villain. Tiffany appears to be getting a “makeover,” so to speak, and most of us no longer see her as THE villain of the strip.
The current villain of the strip, Ann Eiffel, is frustrating a lot of people because she has become like Shannon: Just as you never see Toni without Shannon, so too do we never see Tiffany any more without Ann over her shoulder. The difference is, Shannon isn’t intentionally malicious. But, as portrayed, Ann Eiffel is over-the-top malicious, spiteful, and downright despicable. In addition, as portrayed, as a rule, she NEVER suffers the consequences of her evil doings.
There appears to be no nuance whatsoever to Ann’s character: She’s all evil, all the time. Furthermore, she enjoys torturing people, especially Tiffany, and always seems to have the upper hand, a card up her sleeve, or something. But whatever it is, she always comes out on top.
At any rate, this is why I’m offering the chance to sound off, with no guarantees that G&K will bother to read this. But maybe someb
