About Mexikid Stories

Pedro Martin has created a cartoon memoir of his childhood during the ’70s and ’80s. In this collection, he relives the fun and perfectly fine craziness of growing up as one of nine kids in a sharecropper family in central California.

Pedro’s work plays on very specific childhood incidents that are surprisingly relatable. He recounts everything from the daily impact of the Stars (both “Wars and “Trek”) to the adventures he has being his non-English-speaking Mom’s translator when shopping for pantyhose.

As a child of immigrants, Pedro straddled the three worlds in which his childhood takes place: Old Mexico, new American elementary school, and the tangle in the middle. And like millions of other families throughout the world, Pedro’s family made a lot of happy moments with very little money.
