We saw in Jonathan Swann’s excellent Axios interview how Trump tries to distort and misrepresent data (as satirized in the ’toon) to present a false and misleading narrative of his disastrous handling of an infection that other countries have managed to contain far more successfully. No matter how much lipstick Trump might try to put on that pig, he may lie, distort and misrepresent, but fortunately Axios’ Swann was having none of it, and rubbed Trump’s nose in the actual facts. Appreciation to good journalists who push back and refuse to just sit there and listen to Trump’s lies.
U.S.A. is number one!
Number one in cases confirmed positive for COVID-19.
Number one in deaths from COVID-19.
Number one in being travel-banned by the most countries (kind of an appropriate irony, considering how eager Trump was to ban travel from what he called “sh**hole countries,” many of which are doing far better than the U.S.)
Number one in most lies told by a president, including his attempt to bamboozle Axios’ Jonathan Swann as noted above.
But while other countries have leaders that are aggressively tackling the pandemic, we have Trump who ignores science, disregards the massive resources his predecessor left to him, proclaims a national emergency and then takes virtually no national action of substance, keeps telling us that it will just “go away” — “disappear, like magic” — without a vaccine until he shrugs his disinterested shoulders and dismisses the massive (and growing) piles of dead bodies with “it is what it is” and rushes off to make tee time.
