Around 1971, they built a drive-in where it could be seen from our house; and by ‘seen’ I mean one could perceive a tiny dot of color off across the fields. With a 16x monocular, it was just barely possible to discern what was on the screen. It’s one of the few drive-ins still going, though that could change if the real estate it’s on gets valuable enough to carve it up into condos..I finally detoured, while taking a road trip, to see the Theater Motel, which had signs on the highway. Looks like a residential motel now, and the screen’s been gone for years, though the projection booth is still standing, and the remains of the playground could tempt kids with no sense of self-preservation.
