Peanuts has always been wildly popular, but I always wished that Schulz would give CB some successes with people and with childhood. I wonder how many kids saw/see themselves in Charlie Brown (“Of all the Charlie Browns in the world, you’re the Charlie Browniest”). Picking someone out to tease and ridicule is sometimes a part of kid culture, unfortunately. Maybe Schulz didn’t allow Charlie Brown to “overcome” because he wanted to mirror his own childhood?
I know, I’m overthinking this. But for me it was always the unfunny part of the strip and I just felt sympathy for that boy.
