She asks, "If I were the only girl on earth, would you like me, Charlie Brown?"<BR><BR> She stoops down as he replies, "You mean if there were no dogs around, either? Or cats?"<BR><BR> He spreads his hands and continues, "Or if there were no goldfish, or horses, or lambs, or chipmunks, or nothing?"<BR><BR> She stands and looks at the reader as he decides, "In that case, I might."<BR><BR>
based on how she treats him most of the time, it makes sense.
