I’ve seen repints of that one-shot. It was… interesting. Sadly, Supes was still drawn as a walking deus ex machine in those days, so it was really kinda a Superman story with Spidey along for the ride.
Now that I’ve been reminded that our pilot friend in the 2nd panel is from TERRY & THE PIRATES, it’s a guess that the off-panel “Madame” is either the Dragon Lady in her more politically correct identity of Madame Deal, or the controversial early LGBT villain Sanjak, alias Madame Sud.
As a kid, I saw some channel — USA? — air that back when the Beatty movie came out; easily the best DICK TRACY cartoon ever, especially after I saw some of the standard “Dick Tracy” cartoons of the time, which actually starred a series of bad and often racist police/detective stock characters, and animation that made CLUTCH CARGO and DIXIE & PIXIE look like the Fleischer bros.!
Rosa’s being very mature, and Greg is being a very good writer. Too often, in real life and in fiction, we treat disagreements, and having different points of views and goals in life as being, well, wrong, being oppositional, or sometimes even a sign of madness. Seeing that Gunther has a niche in life somewhere else but has given time to seeing her through to the end of finding her own niche shows a very appreciative side of Rosa that, frankly, we don’t often see too often in our regular cast of characters.
My family has one of those trees where, other than the lights, nothing matches…. it’s a brouhaha of random ornaments we (and by that, I mean my mom) have bought over the years, usually from souvenir places. Nothing matches at all. My parents insist it gives the tree character, but we all know what that means…
