Wow! Well done! They look so much more warm and human. I love this strip, but I have to agree with Seafox10: they do look kind of creepy without pupils in their eyes.
It does look like a rooster, doesn’t it? I think what it’s supposed to represent is shadow to give a bit of fullness to what are essentially tone-on-tone 2-dimensional figures.
Have you ever noticed how people’s hair grows out of the crown of their heads? It follows a sort of swirly pattern. I think that’s what Scott is trying to depict by the rooster shape in Missy’s hair.
Personally, I love Scott’s drawing style and how he re-uses his figures. Not to mention his awesome sense of humour. This is one of my favourite strips. Makes me LOL pretty near every time!!
I’d love to see Missy take over another strip sometime. She totally rocks!
Ah, but which Grandma is it? Is it Calvin’s Dad’s mother or his Mom’s? I’ve seen a lot of personality traits exhibited by both Calvin’s parents so it’s hard to say which one takes after someone who would send an empty box with a sarcastic note in it, but my money would be on Calvin’s Mom’s mother. What do you guys think?
This strip makes a great statement and I certainly agree with some of the other viewers that Thank You notes are sadly becoming a lost art. We’ve made a concerted effort in my family to preserve the idea of expressing gratitude and I’m always happy to hear of others doing the same.
Bill Watterson is an absolute genius! Talent beyond compare! I love how he can draw in the “serious cartoon” manner and then revert back to our familiar “Calvin and Hobbes” style. And even within that, I find it amazing how he depicts Hobbes as real-life to Calvin but as an actual stuffed toy to the rest of the world. The man is amazing!
I’m so happy to be able to follow the adventures of C+H here on GoComics.com because I really miss Bill Watterson in the newspapers.
Now more than ever! Please reprint this.
