Conceivably, Obama might have used your Old Testament quotation in addressing troops as their CIC. But I suspect he keeps his war plans secret, no matter what he tells the Pakistanis or his Nobel audience.
Romney by contrast actually glorifies his task of oppressing God’s enemies—-i.e., everyone who is not a Mormon. Each Sunday he finds the nearest Mormon church and goes there to cheerlead the white-robed congregation (you aren’t admitted to the congregation unless you’ve been purged of your sins).
Obama, who is of mixed race, is a leader of all Americans. Romney thinks only of his white-robed followers; anyone who is not a Saint can be ignored, because God has doomed them to hell anyway and government should not interfere with God’s plans..

Since Romney doesn’t remember the workers whose jobs he destroyed 25 years back, we can hardly expect him to recall somebody he humiliated half a century ago.
On the other hand, his recollection of Mormon history is both detailed and precise. Every Sunday he tells the congregation of Latter-Day Saints about his ancestors the Lamanites and how zealously they did God’s work destroying the Nephites. Here is a lament by the victims:
“And behold, the Lamanites have hunted my people, the Nephites, down from city to city and from place to place, even until they are no more ; and great has been their fall ; yea, great and marvelous is the destruction of my people, the Nephites.”
This is not an Ohio factory worker fired by Bain Capital. The speaker is Moroni, son of Mormon (Book of Mormon 8:7). Will we be hearing this cry next year from teachers and other public service employees laid off by a President Romney bent upon “recapitalizing” America for the one per cent?

As de Tocqueville remarked 170 years ago, “The president of the United States does not have a monarch’s power. The true sovereign power is Congress” (I paraphrase T’s Democracy in America).
I too despair when I see Americans treating the president as if he—-and not they themselves—-were the sovereign person responsible for our state. But then I’m heartened when they blame our ills on Congress; that comes closer to the mark.
Now if the electorate were only aware that they choose our Congress and that Congress then writes the laws giving big money their unfair, undemocratic advantages over the rest of us. And big money puts up a smokescreen of ads diverting our anger away from Congress to the president.

“This will not sway Romney’s supporters, just as questions about Obama will not sway his. This is a nonissue.”
Is your comment supposed to be an example of balanced argument? You equate a past action (Romney’s confirmed violence) with doubt of Obama’s citizenship (something disputed only by those who deny the historical record)?
This mindless balancing of historical fact against historical fiction is worthy of Faux News, not Doonesbury.

Do you consider it “ranting” to think about others besides yourself? What you call “common sense” is in fact common insensitivity, dignified by the hollow phrase “self-interest.”
Any of the animals instinctively outdoes us when it comes to self-interest. And only those among us who can’t transcend their “bestial oblivion” (as Hamlet calls it) will dismiss altruism as a breach of “common sense.”

Romney’s money does indeed party with Jeff’s.
According to the Gospel of Mormon, “The kingdom of God will be taken away from you 99 percenters and given to us who know how to hoard our capital” (Mitt 21:43).

The fantasy millionaire Jeff, sitting in his bubble bath, is a brilliant caricature of hypocritical Republicans like Romney. They equate capital with job creation but fail to mention that by taking that capital out of circulation they destroy jobs.
Only 2% of those who are taxed as “corporations” actually run small businesses. The rest are wealthy individuals who hoard their capital and justify their greed by saying that government regulations make it unsafe to invest in America,
As for business prudence, Jack Welch (CEO of General Electric) observed that no business tries to plan ahead more than 3 to 5 years, lest shareholders complain it’s taking it’s eye off the bottom line.
That’s why we can’t afford to make a CEO (Romney) our president. He’d work for his shareholders (Republicans) who care only about the bottom line (eliminating our deficit), not about the strength of the country or its vital institutions like education and health care.

Thanks for defending GBT’s mild sadism, Zipper.
For an "inquiring Constitutionalist, " you sound very much like Justice Clarence Thomas (except Thomas has no time for the comics).
