It now takes 60 votes in the senate to do anything at all, and that’s only if the proposal isn’t blocked from coming to the floor. Any senator can put permanent secret holds on any nomination. Having set these damaging precedents, how the GOP expects they’ll get anything done if they gain a majority is beyond me; but it will probably include calling Democrats traitors if they attempt the things that the Republicans are doing routinely now.
