Shen was originally the author’s self-insert character, which he used to voice all of the petty gripes he has about life. Since then, he has drifted away from the author in both appearance and personality, but still often voices all of the author’s petty gripes about life. Shen is, in short, the modern man.
Life:
Life is often personified as a buff dude that Shen combats on a day to day basis. So are student loans, winter, and many, many other things.
